You Can't Stop Challenges
But you can learn how to manage them with Alex Fichera
🎙️🚨 NEW PODCAST AVAILABLE 🚨🎙️
Little known fact about me, I’m a bit of a nerd.
I studied political science, i.e. the study of politics and power, in college. Basically, I spent four years trying to understand ideologies, policies, processes, and behaviors at the highest level within a society and/or culture and where they come from.
To really round out my nerdom, I minored in sociology and anthropology. The studies of humanity or human societies and cultures at a much broader and a bit more scientific level.
I loved college for this reason. I had no idea where it could lead me, but I didn’t really care. I was so enthralled with learning about the what and why of humanity that I just kept my head down and went full send. It wasn’t until 20 years later that I figured out why. Turns out one of my superpowers is an innate drive to make the world a better place. Not because I think it’s broken per se, but because I have a gift for seeing what patterns aren’t working and how the lack of optimization affects people.
It’s why we focus on optimizing teams at Performance Reimagined. It’s not enough to just focus on one person or group within a team or full athletic organization. Doing so makes it tough to see what patterns aren’t working and how it affects performance … for everyone.
All this to say, it lights me up to find fellow nerds who run in this same circle. Meet Alex Fichera, self-proclaimed “culture conduit”. Former athlete, anthropologist, and culture enthusiast.
Alex brings such a powerful perspective to this topic! He explains how his experience as a nomadic soccer player informed his love for studying humans. He then took that love and turned it into an expertise and business. He even wrote a book about it! (See the link below for more details). In his book, Alex focuses more on the athlete who’s no longer playing, but the principles apply to anyone, like you, still in the game.
Check out the episode on YouTube and/or Spotify.
Some of the highlights you’ll hear:
How his soccer experience informed what he does today
The value of striking balance between having structure (like your practice routine) and flexibility within it (making it your own)
His book, The Business Athlete
How to effectively manage 4 types of energy: physical, emotional, mental, spiritual
Your Brand Consciousness and how to accurately talk about and demonstrate your value
Thanks so much for tuning in! Be sure to like and subscribe to the show so you never miss the words of wisdom (or W.O.W. moments as we like to call them) from our awesome guests. And if you think anyone you know would benefit from hearing Alex’s story, please pass it along.
