Top 5 Lessons from the Fastest Man on the Field

And they have nothing to do with building speed

🚨 🚨 Hot off the production floor! Another podcast episode! 🚨🚨

In my uneducated-about-football-days, while I knew it wasn’t just about running around the field hoping to get the ball (regardless of whether you’re offense or defense) that’s what it looked like to me. Despite my ignorance and having no idea what was really going on, I still loved it.

It was because of this love (turned slight obsession if I’m being totally honest) that I made the decision to really learn the game. While I’m still not an expert, (watching Quarterback on Netflix certainly made that abundantly clear) I’ve learned quite a bit about the game, which has only deepened my obsession. (Just 6 more Sundays left before it’s back, but who’s counting?)

I’ve always said that if I had been able to play football, I’d want to be on defense. There’s just something about that side of the ball that lights my entire energy on 🔥.

I used to think that I’d want to be a linebacker. Someone say blitz?! Uhhh yes, please!! But the more I learn, the more I’d want to be a cornerback. Speed, agility, and strategy all wrapped into one. They have to watch the QB, follow the pass, attempt to break it up, and make a tackle if they miss that chance. And I’m here for ALL of it.

🎶 Put me in coach! I’m ready to play! Today! 🎶

But alas, the circumstances don’t exist for me to play football. Though not all hope is lost. I still get the next best thing; talking to former NFL players (including cornerbacks) like Demetrius McCray who went from flag football to the NFL with some stops in 2 other sports during high school and other valuable experiences as well.

Demetrius dropped some powerful insights on how to make an effective transition from HS to college and college to the NFL … along with the biggest lesson he took from sports and how he applies it today.
