How to Tell You're the Best
BTW: It doesn't take much
One thing you’ll notice pretty quickly is that we talk a lot about your inner opponent… because it wreaks havoc for everyone - athlete, parent, coach, professional in something other than sport. If you’re human, you’re plagued by one.
But fear not! We’ve got some ways over, under, around, and through it. Starting with …
You’re better than that little voice in your head - ie. your inner opponent.
But, like, how do you know?
Because of one very powerful fun fact: You have the power.
Your inner opponent will try to tell you that you don’t. It will tell you all sorts of stuff that’s just not true. And yet, you are smart, capable and full of value.
Your power is based in awareness.
The moment you become aware of your inner opponent, the power shifts.
Your inner opponent likes to lurk in the shadows and hates the light. It’s like a vampire in that way. Inner opponents are really sneaky. Sometimes you don’t even realize it’s there, whispering right in your ear.
But shine a bright light on that sucker and *poof*.
They turn to dust and you can push right past it to reach your goals.
So, how can you do that?
Practice the pause. When your inner opponent is jibber-jabbering about how you’re not good enough, the first thing you can do to become aware of its presence is just pause. Take a beat.
Focus on your strengths and abilities. There are several things you do really well. It’s true - or you wouldn’t be where you are. You didn’t come this far to only come this far and be beaten by your inner opponent.
Believe things can be different. This is like a silver bullet hurdling toward your vampiric inner opponent. Oof. It HATES when you know things can and will be different - and likely a lot better.
Recognizing your negative self-talk is NOT you is exactly how you conquer it.
So send your inner opponent to the bench. You’re aware. You have the power.
BTW, you’re amazing. Theres’s no doubt in my mind you can do this and, deep down, you know that too.
